Finalists in the Irish Steel Awards 2025

In 2025, we are delighted to have been shortlisted for an Irish Steel Award in three categories:

Constructional Steelwork: Island House, Killybegs, Co. Donegal

As part of the Killybegs Town Centre Regeneration, Island House is a landmark three-storey civic building designed to connect community, commerce, and culture, with a tourist facility on the ground floor and a digital hub above. McMenamin Engineering supplied, detailed, and fabricated the structural steel, decking, and purlins, delivering a precise and coordinated solution to meet architectural and structural requirements. Despite challenges from the tight waterfront site and restricted access at the busy pier, careful planning and strict safety measures enabled efficient installation. The result is a striking, high-quality structure that acts as a catalyst for the town’s redevelopment.

Industrial Engineering – Equipment Manufacturing: Manufacture of Tower Crane Tower Sections

This submission showcases McMenamin Engineering’s ultra-precision fabrication of Saez Tower Crane sections for distribution by Mantis Cranes in Ireland and the UK. Previously produced solely in Spain, local manufacturing has reduced delivery times, logistics costs, and environmental impact. Drawing on over 25 years of crane expertise from Mantis Cranes, McMenamin ensures strict quality and performance standards. Using Irish-sourced steel, precision-cast components, and certified welding procedures, each section is fabricated entirely in-house. A custom 15m jig enables continuous production of multiple section variants, ensuring dimensional accuracy within ±0.5mm over 12m, meeting Saez’s stringent geometric tolerances.

Mechanical Engineering: Access Stair, Hydro Station, Donegal

This project delivered new galvanised steel access stairs to connect the ground level to a newly built platform over a live fish stream beside a hydro station. Due to the sensitive environment, erection planning, lifting strategies, and protective measures were carefully implemented to avoid stream disruption or contamination. The stairs were prefabricated off-site for durability and to minimise environmental risk during installation. Using mobile crane services and strict exclusion zones, the team ensured safe, efficient assembly. Completed by McMenamin Engineering in collaboration with ESB and Quinn Crane Hire, the project provided a durable, compliant, and environmentally responsible access solution.
